This is an outstanding character-driven story, by someone I consider to be an up-and-coming author. While some might consider it "young adult," as a middle-aged man I thoroughly enjoyed the author's unique blend of romance, action, fantasy, and epic mythos. Her story is character driven, realistic -- not everyone comes out unscathed, and contains at least one character with whom the reader can easily bond. I was drawn in to what is essentially our modern world overlaid by the rich tapestry of the Norse sagas. It will be interesting to follow the growth of these characters, both young and old, and see how their perspective and events changes them. This is a book to be read, and shared!

Hammerfall Chosen of the Gods Volume 1 Natasha Cover Books Reviews
This book is incredible. It's fun, fast paced and fantastical. I can't wait for more. Maybe a role playing game!
Hammerfall is certainly a special book, and one I thoroughly enjoyed being sucked into. First, I really like that the story is about humans who experience the gods through them and their relics, and not through the gods themselves. Being able to relate to the characters helped make this story interesting, but even more than that, it helped keep my interest. We hear about Thor and Loki, and will see the world through his eyes, but when do we actually see the world through the eyes of a human somewhat inhabited by the god? I do have some issues with this book, unfortunately. Even though I learned a lot while reading, I felt that I learned more about the gods than the humans who guided us through the story (and helped save the world). I like that the story is set up in only a week's time (I especially like the titles being the days of the week in Norse), but the week flows by fast, too fast. This book is the length of a novella, not a novel, so there is room to flesh out certain aspects of the story. There needs to be more character building for the human characters, as well as some polishing of their dialogue (It becomes difficult to tell their speech apart from the gods). Other than that, I found myself drawn into the story, enjoying the background of the Norse and Norns.
Great book! Its well written and fun. I couldn't put it down!
This was a fine adventure yarn, highlighted by the influence of the rainbow bridge. The dialogue was well-written and the action steady without being predictable. I have recommended it to several friends and will continue to do so!
What a great story! I enjoyed reading it very much, and was quite sad to leave the world of Hammerfall behind when I found myself at the end of the book. The author did an excellent job creating characters with wit and personality that interact very well together. She is a talented storyteller, and I look forward to reading many more tales from her in the future.
Not only are the characters believable-- you get the feeling they are whole people, individuals with lives that were disrupted and interrupted by the story's events. This can be a difficult thing to do in a novel that "starts in the middle of the action". I enjoyed the modern setting intermingled with myth and stories.
The ending note by Cover reads, "I hope that Hammerfall was able to share a little bit of [my joy of Norse mythology] with you. I hope it made you curious, made you want to know more about the stories mentioned within. Above all else, I hope it took you to another world, even if only for a short time."
Hammerfall did just that. The contemporary world coalesces with the ancient and previously abandoned myths are renewed and fused with the lives of four colorful characters, leaving the reader enticed in the underlying myths escourting the story. Hammerfall thus makes the forgotten memorable, the unknown illuminated, and those indifferent interested. Most of all, Hammerfall most certainly will take you to another world.
